Hi, I’m Ruth. I am Tinta Viva Translation.

I translate from Spanish and French into English.

My specialisms are Business and Marketing, Real Estate,
Urbanism, Sustainability and Social Science.

I’m based in Oxfordshire in the UK,
but I work with clients all over the world.

I’ve been a professional translator for the last eight years

I launched Tinta Viva Translation in March 2016, after passing the CIoL Level 7 Diploma in Translation (ES-EN) in 2015. In January 2020, I went on to pass the Dip Trans again in my second language pair. I became a full qualified member of the ITI in 2020 and a Chartered Linguist in 2021.

Over the last eight years, I’ve worked with a wide variety of texts, from academic papers to marketing brochures to business reports, and become familiar with every style guide under the sun, working mainly with Trados Studio and MemoQ.

About me
Ruth Grant

Ruth Grant

Translator

French and Spanish to English (all varieties)

Growing up, I loved languages and writing but also wanted to be a professional eco warrior. After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a first-class BA in Geography and an MPhil in Environment and Development, I came to realise that a) this is quite a niche job and b) I didn’t really want a job, anyway. I wanted to think for myself, choose my own projects and get really good at a few select skills. I never stopped studying languages, but I worked in social research, gained another Master’s degree in urban planning and managed fundraising campaigns for an Oxford college before finally deciding that it had to be words, after all.

I launched Tinta Viva Translation in early 2016,  pursuing the love of ideas and language that had always been fizzing away in the background. As a translator, I get to write every day, dive into topics I’m passionate about and let my inner pedant roam free. Sublime.

I live in Faringdon, Oxfordshire, but my favourite cities are Granada, Paris and NYC. I like wild places, thick novels, good coffee and tiny houses, and I’m an idealist at heart.

Other things I love

What I do, and don’t

My job is to produce a piece of quality writing that is faithful to the original AND effective in its new form. I believe that good translation can add tremendous value for our clients, their organisations and their audiences, and to me, that means giving each piece of work the best of my human knowledge, experience and imagination.  So I don’t work with MT, and I don’t routinely accept projects involving MPTE. Other than that, I will always do my best to accommodate your needs, and I’m happy to tailor my approach to get you the very best result.

Ms Grant delivered an excellent translation of our Case Study. She completed her task ahead of schedule, and was very communicative, not only in the coordination of her assignment, but also in regards to her work.   María Gabriela Caram Programme Assistant | Equator Initiative

The work done by Ruth Grant has been of incredible value to me and my team at Cineuropa.org. Her in-depth knowledge of both Spanish and English shines through in her accurate, thorough translations, which we barely even had to proofread before publishing them on our website. Whatever pace we expect her to adapt to, she is able to deliver great results.   David Gonzáles Editorial Coordinator | Cineuropa
